Snowflake Integration with Modular Solutions
Our platform includes a Snowflake cloud data warehouse that holds your operational insurance data – quoting, underwriting, policy administration, claims and finance – in one place.
How the Snowflake Integration Works
The Snowflake integration runs end-to-end without any pipeline work on your side. Here’s the full path your data takes from the platform to the report on the screen.
1. Modular Solutions captures your insurance data.
Data is generated through everyday activity across quoting, underwriting, policy administration, claims, billing and finance workflows. This is the operational data your team creates in the platform.
2. A scheduled process loads it into Snowflake.
On a set schedule, that data is then loaded into your Snowflake data warehouse and organised for reporting and analysis. The load runs on its own – there’s nothing to trigger, no export to manage, and nothing your team needs to do.
3. Power BI reports are built on the warehouse.
Reports and dashboards are built directly on the warehouse data, covering underwriting, policy activity, claims, finance, and related operations. You can also use Power BI to build your own dashboards and reports, if you desire.
4. Reports render in the Intelligence Module.
Our Intelligence Module houses all of our available reports and dashboards. That means there’s no separate analytics tool or separate login to access your reporting.
Embedded Power BI Reporting
The Snowflake warehouse is the foundation; embedded Power BI reporting is how your team actually uses it.
Reports live in the Intelligence Module of the Modular Solutions platform. There’s no separate analytics environment for your team to administer. Everything is in-platform.
If you want to connect additional teams or tools to the warehouse beyond the reports and dashboards in the catalogue, this can be arranged.
What Data Is In Your Snowflake Data Warehouse
Your warehouse holds operational data generated across the Modular Solutions platform:
- Policy and policy activity
- Quote and underwriting activity
- Claims activity
- Financial and premium transaction data
- Broker, customer and partner activity
- Operational and performance metrics
Because all of it sits in one warehouse rather than in separate workflow-level reports, you can analyse across functions instead of reconciling exports by hand.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Warehouse data is currently stored in Canada. For Canadian brokerages, MGAs, carriers and mutual insurers working under privacy legislation and internal data residency policies, this is a straightforward answer to give compliance and audit teams.
Data residency here refers to where warehouse data is stored. Some platform features processing (particularly those leveraging other integrations or AI) may take place elsewhere. When available, we choose Canadian processing.
Key Benefits of the Snowflake Integration
A single view of the business: Underwriting, policy, claims and finance data in one warehouse, reported on together rather than in isolation.
Reporting inside the platform: PowerBI reports embedded in the Intelligence Module so teams get insight without leaving the system.
No data pipeline to build or maintain: Everything is automated, from the scheduled upload to updating reports and everything is part of the same platform.
Historical reporting and trend analysis: The data warehouse is designed to hold history, so period-over-period and multi-year analysis does not depend on retained exports.
Data stored in Canada: A clear residency for warehoue data.
Room to scale: Snowflake separates storage and compute, so analytics workloads can grow without redesigning your operational systems.
Included in your Modular Solutions subscription: The data warehouse is part of the Modular Solutions platform, not a separately licensed product you host and run.
Insurance Data Analytics with Snowflake
Insurance organizations generate large volumes of data – and that data is typically trapped in the workflow that produced it. Operational reporting answers questions about one process at a time; the questions leadership actually asks tend to cross several.
A data warehouse solves that by holding the whole picture in one place. Brokerages, MGAs, carriers and mutual insurers can use the Snowflake warehouse in the Modular Solutions platform to support:
- Centralised storage of operational insurance data
- Operational reporting across underwriting, policy and claims
- Financial and premium reporting
- Trend analysis and historical comparison
- Performance monitoring across teams and lines of business
- Cross-functional business intelligence
About the Snowflake Cloud Data Platform
Snowflake is a cloud-native data platform for data storage, analytics and data engineering. It provides a managed environment for centralising data and supporting reporting, business intelligence and advanced analytics at enterprise scale.
Because Snowflake separates storage from compute, analytics workloads can scale independently of the data they run on – reporting demand can grow without a redesign of the underlying environment. It supports both structured and semi-structured data, and is widely used as the foundation for enterprise reporting, dashboarding and tend analysis.
Key Features of the Snowflake Cloud Data Warehoue
Cloud data warehousing — a centralised environment for storing and analysing large volumes of business data.
2Scalable performance — storage and compute scale independently, so analytics workloads grow without changes to core operational systems.
3Data preparation and transformation — data is organised and transformed for reporting, dashboards and analytics.
4Business intelligence enablement — a foundation for reporting tools, dashboards and enterprise analytics programs.
5Structured and semi-structured data support — a range of data types used across reporting and analytics workflows.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Snowflake Integration
What is Snowflake?
Snowflake is a cloud-based data platform that lets organisations store, process and analyse data in a scalable cloud environment. In Modular Solutions, it is the data warehouse that holds your operational insurance data for reporting and analytics.
Where is my Snowflake data stored?
Warehouse data is stored in Canada, consistent with the region specified in your order form. Note that where Modular Solutions AI features are used, processing may take place outside Canada — that is separate from where warehouse data is stored.
Does the Snowflake integration cost extra?
The warehouse is included in your Modular Solutions subscription. There is no separate Snowflake licence for you to purchase, host or administer.
Do I need to build a data pipeline or export data myself?
No. A scheduled process loads your operational data into the warehouse. There is no export to run, no integration to build, and nothing for your team to maintain.
How current is the data in my warehouse?
The warehouse reflects the most recent scheduled load rather than live transactional state. Day-to-day operational screens in Modular Solutions remain the source for real-time activity; the warehouse is built for reporting and analysis across periods.
What type of data can be stored in Snowflake?
Snowflake supports structured and semi-structured data used for analytics, reporting and data engineering. In Modular Solutions this includes policy data, quote and underwriting data, claims data, financial and premium transaction data, broker/customer/partner activity, and operational and performance metrics.
Why would an insurance organisation use Snowflake with Modular Solutions?
Transactional system reporting answers questions about one workflow at a time. A centralised warehouse supports analysis across departments and across reporting periods — comparing claims against underwriting, or premium against production, without reconciling exports by hand. It helps organisations create a unified analytics environment, improve reporting consistency, support executive and operational decision-making, and scale analytics without disrupting day-to-day insurance operations.
Can Snowflake scale as data volumes grow?
Yes. Snowflake separates compute from storage, so analytics workloads can be scaled based on demand without redesigning the underlying data environment.
